Duty Belt Setup

NOTE: You must watch the video in its entirety to progress and continue to the next lesson.

It is important to place the main handcuff case in a strategic location on the officers duty belt.
This will minimize errors, create muscle memory and ensures an effective and smooth arrest.
If you are right handed you will have your pouch and cuffs on the front right side of the duty
belt (Weapon side)

If you are left handed, the handcuff case will be on the front left side of the duty belt (Weapon
side).

For training purposes your dominant hand will be referred to as your ‘weapon hand” or
“weapon side” and your other hand your ‘support hand’ or “support side”

“A Security Officer is a professional both physically and mentally. The hallmark of a professional is good
handcuffing skills. This begins through repetitive training. This creates muscle memory. Good handcuffing skills begin with cuff placement. The officer should know where his/her cuffs are on their equipment belt without the aid of sight.

Looking away from a subject for even a second could compromise Officer Safety. Sloppy handcuffing
kills officers.” Handcuffs need to be easily accessible so it reduces the time it takes to handcuff the subject
