Drawing Your Baton

NOTE: You must watch the video in its entirety to progress and continue to the next lesson.

The baton should be carried on the support side in its holster. This way you have proper
positioning for the ‘cross draw method’.

The baton should be placed with the handle upwards so you can easily grasp the handle and
draw the weapon properly.

There are two operational modes:
1) Open
2) Closed

There are 4 Carrying Modes:
1) Holster: The baton is in its holster
2) Ready: The baton is resting across your waist in both hands in the closed mode
3) Concealed: The baton is hidden behind your leg
4) Loaded: The baton is resting beside your shoulder

The ‘cross draw’ method is when you use your weapon hand to reach across the front of your
body to grasp the baton from your support side. Your support hand holds the holster to make it
an easy draw.

If you do not use your support hand to hold the holster there could be a delay in drawing the
baton and potentially putting your life at risk. Every second counts.
Only draw your baton with your weapon hand. Do not draw with your support and transition
the weapon to your weapon hand.

Expanding the Baton
There are 2 modes to open the baton:
A) Downward draw
B) Upward draw

Never open the baton to the side,
You might strike your partner or maybe a bystander beside you. You are responsible for your
weapon.
